PEZENAS Everywhere in Pezenas, you will find the memory of French comedies writter : Jean-Baptiste POQUELIN, known as MOLIERE. He was not born in Pezenas but he stayed some years there acting for the Prince de Conti. Theatrical productions in Pézenas now are either in the street, as in Molières time, or in the open air theatre in the Parc Sans Souci. The interior of the Consular House dates right back to 1552 and the consuls of Pézenas met on this site from 1242 until the Revolution in 1789. Many parts of the town unchanged since the 17th Century. The historic centre is a gem with narrow streets and lanes interesting architecture. An abundance of hotels and restaurants adorn this beautiful town. Along with it's markets, museum, theatre, galleries and plenty of sights and excursions.
Nearby Roman Attraction : Visit The Roman Bridge in St Thibery, crossing the River Herault. It is the longest bridge of the old Roman Road (Via Domitia) linking Rome to Spain... Summer 2010: Pedal Railroad St. Thibéry from the Roman Bridge St. Thibéry direction Pezenas 8km round trip. Small pedal rail car carries 4 or 5. Runs from June to September.
