Antiques in France come from the following periods of French history: Middle Ages,
Renaissance ( From the Italian Renaissance style which featured functional furniture made of oak).
Louis XIII ( King reigned (1589-1643) Furniture was Baroque style and included cherubs and gilding etc).
Louis XIV ( The Sun King's reign (1643-1715) Furniture featured inlaid Marquetry).
Louis XV ( Rococo flowing curves was common on furniture. Shapes inspired by nature like leaves, flowers and shells).
Louis XVI ( This was when 18th Century French Art excelled).
Directoire ( Guilding on furniture is replaced with paint and the shapes become much more angular).
Empire, Restauration, Louis Philipp, Napolean III,
Art Nouveau ( Started in Paris in the 1890's this
movement was inspired by Japanese styles).
Art Deco and Art Moderne.
