SOUTH FRANCE BULLFIGHTING

There are lots of Bull Rings in the south of France and they each attract thousands of visitors each year. The ancient Roman arenas in Nimes and Arles are two important venues.Spanish style "Corridas", man against beast, with only one winner, is very popular.

A common type of bullfighting in the Languedoc and Provence regions is called "Course Libre". The objective is for the participents (Raseteurs) to snatch a rosette from a young bulls head, without getting gored or trampled upon, the bulls blood is not shed. The bullfighting season starts at Easter and ends in September each year.

The Course Camarguaise is a tame form of bullfighting. The white-clad "raseteurs" have to pluck strings from the bull's horns and then run and jump for their life...See the video below...
