The Rhône valley south of Valence and the coastal areas of Languedoc and Provence and lowlying areas near the Cevennes and southern Alps all have a Mediterranean climate. The summers are hot with several months when rain rarely falls. Mediterranean winters are mild and sunny but can be interrupted by strong winds called the Tramotan and the Mistral.
